A DRIMNAGH reader’s sister, “Niamh” has become seriously ill after receiving Gardasil, the HSE’s standard vaccine against Human Papilloma Virus or HPV. Other girls have reported chronic fatigue, dizzy spells and convulsions. A midlands father reported that his daughter reacted to Gardasil with “weak arms and legs, jerking movements, and constant headaches”. Niamh’s sister wrote to us as follows: “Niamh was a fit and healthy until she got the HPV vaccine. Now she cannot play her sports. She passes out. She has been brought by ambulance to hospital six times.” horror movie Meath schoolgirl Abbey Colohan also suffered: “She had an adverse reaction straight away,” her father Martin Colohan recalls. “For over an hour, she was left lying on a mat on the floor while the rest of the girls were being vaccinated.” Abbey had seizure-like jerking, rolling eyes, blurred vision, headache, and nausea. Since then she has had convulsive “horror-movie reactions”. The Department of Health notes 861 adverse reactions to Gardasil, an average of 172 per year between 2010 and 2015. Even one of Gardasil’s inventors, Dr Diane Harper (who helped develop it for US-based Merck) has said that “there is no data to substantiate that the benefits outweigh the risks”. The Taoiseach has noted that the risks of Gardasil were being “continually monitored”. Here, LOCAL NEWS weighs risks and benefits in a little more detail than that offered by Dr Varadkar: linksto ms Internationally, Gardasil has been linked both to Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and to an MS-like condition, Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis or ADEM. In 2013, a court in Bordeaux found against the Sanofi-Pasteur company, a distributor of Gardasil. Plaintiff Marie-Océane Bourguig non experienced serious MSand ADEM-like symptoms at 15, following two doses. There have been similar cases in Spain, the US and elsewhere.
